Music is one of the things that so heals the soul – a universal language that touches us in places that words alone cannot. I have always loved different kinds of music and so as I sat listening to the evening news, disheartened and feeling a bit of panic – I started thinking about what piece of music would be uplifting. I was looking for music for this moment.
I immediately thought of Les Miserable’s One Day More, a song that never fails to fill me up with passion. We saw Les Mis on Broadway with the original cast production (thanks to my mother-in-law Pearl Zimmerman, may her memory be a blessing…) and so listening to the music, also brings me the thrill of being a young woman from the suburbs of Chicago, wowed by the genius of Broadway.
As I do, I went to Twitter to post to my buddies the YouTube video of One Day More, and then asked what music moved others with hope, happiness, and joy – or music that touched them and perhaps could be helpful in this moment.
People — we need this. We have entered a new world right now. We must all know what our go-to’s are that help us stay centered.
There is so much we cannot control. We CAN control what we turn to to soothe our souls.
With love, I share the COVID-19 Playlist, gathered from the recommendations of my friends on Twitter. THANK YOU if you contributed. So far, it’s 104 songs: rock, blues, Broadway, opera, classical, singer-songwriter, duets — it’s all so beautiful.
