A message and prayer I just sent to our Hineni community – thought you might want to hear it too —
Dear Hineni community,
I am sure that by now you are seeing the same unbelievable scenes that have unfolded in Washington DC today.
I write to you with a prayer for calm and peace to prevail. And to reach out to you with my love and prayers as our nation struggles with deep disruption and violence.
It just came across the news that a woman who was shot in the capitol building has died. The videos and photos are unlike anything I’ve ever seen or imagined.
Just yesterday in our Tuesday Hineni session, we talked about triggering events and trauma — and I am certain that for many of us, watching this is painful.
Please take care of your own hearts.
Don’t continue to watch if it’s difficult.
Check-in with your small group to ask how each other is.
My prayer, off the top of my head —
May all our leaders in Washington be protected from violence,
and may people who are rioting step back, and let sanity prevail.
Let our rulers be filled with wisdom as they help us navigate back to a peaceful center
May law enforcement who are protecting our leadership, journalists, staff in the Capitol be safe and guided by justice
Send calm and solace and protection to all government officials hiding in their offices – may it soon be safe for them to emerge.
May their families find comfort.
Blessings to you all –
– Rabbi Jill
